Job description 

The Department of Hematology invites prospective junior group leaders (PhD, MD or MD/PhD) to apply for the enlisted position with the intention to set-up or expand an independent line of research focused on cellular or molecular aspects of hemato-oncology.

Work environment 

The Department of Hematology performs world-leading research into the molecular mechanisms of leukemogenesis and the role of stromal and immune bone marrow microenvironments in disease pathobiology. Research programs are linked to a wide variety of international multicenter clinical trials that are coordinated by the department, with a focus on novel treatment options for AML/MDS, multiple myeloma and development of molecular diagnostics, as well as a broad range of clinical phase I to phase III trials testing novel treatment modalities for hematological malignancies.

The department has dedicated facilities for Flow cytometry, Next Generation (single cell) Sequencing, Imaging Mass Cytometry and bioinformatics support and expertise in animal models of leukemia. Successful applicants will have access to all facilities and a fully equipped lab. Intradepartmental meetings and communication are in English, and we offer an international environment in which the various research groups function in a highly interactive manner.

Qualifications and skills 

Candidates are expected to have built a strong track record in cellular or molecular aspects of hematology or oncology during their Ph.D and postdoctoral studies, supported by scientific achievements, first-author publications and preferably acquisition of competitive funding.

Terms of employment 

We offer a competitive salary and excellent secondary employment conditions. The employment conditions include an end-of-year and a holiday payment and contribution to a pension scheme. We also offer financial support for moving to the Netherlands. The position comes with a starting support package that includes your own salary, salary for 2 additional positions as well as annual bench fee. The junior group leader will be appointed for 5 years, with evaluations after the third and fifth year. If successful, junior group leaders can be offered a permanent position at the department after this period.

  • The gross monthly salary amounts a maximum of € 6.122,- (scale 12), depending on your level of education and relevant experience and based on a full-time working week of 36 hours.
  • Excellent fringe benefits, such as a 13th month that is already paid out in November and a individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance with ABP. We take care of approximately 2/3 of the monthly contribution.
